The Farrelly bros. are making their Three Stooges film! And they mean it this time!
Here’s the big casting news today, via Variety:
MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for “The Three Stooges.” Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome “Curly” Howard. The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe.
I’ve found discussion of this project on Stooges fan forums as far back as early 2001.
Word came down a few hours ago that David Letterman married his long (long, long, long) term girlfriend Regina Lasko last Thursday in Montana, where the couple and their son Harry live while the rest of us are watching Late Show reruns.
He announced the nuptials during the today’s taping. The details are plentiful online (305 articles and growing on Google News), but tonight’s show is something that absolutely must be watched.

One of my life’s secondary loves is photography, so when comedy is mixed with the still image, I get just a tad excited. The April issue of Vanity Fair, featuring comedy’s current & next big things shot as classic comedy icons, doesn’t disappoint. It’s reminiscent of another fantastic VF spread from one year ago, full of comedy’s leading ladies.
The shots are fun. For the most part you can tell you’re looking at photos of comedians, but you aren’t hit over the head with it. While watching Vanity Fair’s behind-the-scenes video on this latest spread, I was reminded of the not-so-distant past of comedy photography.

Can we say “epic”? The Daily Record reports that Ricky Gervais will reprise his role as David Brent in the American version of The Office. The Record says this will be for the “last episode”, which one assumes means this year’s season finale. No other sources are reporting it yet, but if it’s true, May can’t come fast enough!
TV Week has a great piece about the current health of the sitcom, specifically as it’s served up by CBS. In short: the sitcom is alive and well, and not going anywhere (especially since people aren’t so keen on rewatching cycle 9 of America’s Next Top Model at 2pm on a weekday). If you’re interested in how CBS runs things, or are curious about how all this syndication stuff works, it’s a great read.

I admire powerful women in comedy. They’re few and far between, but this isn’t a rant about the lack of women in comedy (really, it’s nothing to be bitter about).
Instead, I will lament today’s absence of common sense, courtesy of a woman who should be on my admiration list.
